Anglican Life on TV

06 Dec 2009

This Christmas eve the stories of Anglican Life will be coming to the small screen on TV One.

Christmas Eve 2008 saw the TVNZ broadcast ‘A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols’ from Wellington Cathedral enjoy a wide viewership. Due to the success of that event the state broadcaster has requested a similar production for 2009 hosted by Simon Barnett in our own ChristChurch Cathedral. The show will feature well-known carols sung by the choir and congregation and a selection of popular Christmas anthems sung by the choir as conducted by Brian Law.

‘The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols’ will include eight stories about the work being done by Anglicans in the Christchurch Diocese, with the nine lessons being read by prominent personalities in the community such as Jason Gunn and David McFail. The ninth lesson will be read by Bishop Matthews who will conclude the broadcast with a special Christmas blessing.

“Each story clearly celebrates our heritage and shows that the church is very much alive and involved in God’s Mission”.

This special Christmas feature is screening twice on TV One - at midnight on Christmas Eve, and at 10am on Christmas day.
