Thinking of doing a Lent Course?
York Courses is offering a new Lent couse on CD featuring the Archbishop of York, Rachel Lampard, and Clifford Longley. Bishop Graham Cray provides the thoughtful closing reflections.
"Handing on the Torch - Sacred Words for a Secular World" considers some of the reasons why Christianity in the West is struggling to grow and – perhaps – even to survive, and what this might mean for individual Christians, for churches and for Western culture, in a world where alternative beliefs are increasingly on offer.
Each of the 5 sessions offers a good selection of stimulating questions aimed at engaging every group member.
Because it’s good to discuss issues of faith, doubt, morality, conflict, and so on with other people – especially if they take a different view from you. Discussion of important issues helps you grow, both as a person and in faith.
Anyway, it’s always useful to keep up with new ways of thinking. One way to keep things fresh is to have members of other congregations and denominations in any group you may form. And, just as important as anything above is that, if you’re doing it right, it’s FUN!,
Lent, traditionally a period of fasting and prayer in preparation for Easter, is an ideal opportunity to put aside time for regular meetings for joint study. You can get five or six in between Ash Wednesday and Easter. It’s not easy to forget if it becomes a regular annual event.
But, needless to say, you don’t have to wait until Lent. You can do a study course any time you like, as many times as you like in the year.
www.yorkcourses have an information sheet on their website that you can download – as well as an organiser’s checklist – with plenty of tips on how to get going.
At www.yorkcourses.co.uk you can listen to snippets from each of the contributors and preview sample pages from the booklets.
