24 Dec 2011
We understand some areas have deteriorated significantly and were the source of the mortar dust seen by many witnesses. There were no workers on site at the time.
Assessments will be required to ascertain the exact extent and potential consequences of additional damage. The Cathedral will continue to be cordoned off whilst these assessments take place over the coming days and weeks.
We will continue to work with CERA to ensure that all appropriate assessments are undertaken as quickly as possible.
As we have stated throughout, our first priority is the safety of people and that remains our focus.
Once we have further information, we will make sure that our wider Christchurch community is kept up to date.
More than 20,000 people gathered in Hagley Park to remember what was lost in Christchurch one year ago - and to imagine a Christchurch of tomorrow.
• A time to assure Christchurch
