Research Participants sought for a study of Occupational Health amongst Front-Line Workers in Christchurch

A research team based at the University of Otago and the Auckland University of Technology is commencing a study which focuses on the occupational health of front line workers responding to the earthquake(s) aftermath in Christchurch and a comparison group in Hamilton (and for Fire-fighters the Waikato/Bay of Plenty). The research is being funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand and the Canterbury Medical Research Association and has ethics approval from the University of Otago.

The occupational health of front line workers is an important public health issue and their occupational role in responding to natural disasters is vital. We very much hope that the results of this study will be used to inform workplace policy and provide a knowledge base that can inform occupational health management for those who provide these vital services to the communities of New Zealand.
