Parishes within the Nelson Diocese were asked by Bishop Richard Ellena to offer immediate brief respite of up to a week or so to Christchurch families, single people and the elderly who would like to have a break from the devastation.From this more than 24 individual have come forward to offer places - with places located in Nelson, Blenheim, Golden Bay, Marlborough Sounds and Buller districts to cater a variety of circumstances. The Social Services Enabler for the Nelson Diocese, Gerrie Mead, will be acting as the liaison person in the first instance to co-ordinate this respite accommodation. Waiapu diocese has also offered houses for respite from the earthquake, with places in Taradale, Napier, Gisborne and Dannevirke. Phil, a parishioner from Tawa Anglican Church, is trying to organise respite accommodation for Christchurch people needing a break from the tremors. The Archbishops and Bishops of the province have launched an appeal to help the Diocese of Christchurch and Te Hui Amorangi Te Waipounamu in their ministry, care and support to their people and parishes and communities affected by the 22 February Christchurch earthquake.
The Anglican Diocese of Wellington will be managing, on behalf of “the province”, the processing of all donations to this appeal.
All donations will qualify as a “charitable donation” and (provided the correct procedure for making the donation is followed) then you will receive an acknowledgement of your donation, and the appropriate receipt, by mail.
Donations can be made in two ways:
By Cheque: Please make your cheque out to “Bishops Appeal” or “Bishops CHCH Appeal”
Post them to the “Bishops’ Emergency Appeal”, Anglican Centre, PO Box 12046, Wellington 6144.
Through your local Parish: The local parish will collect and receive donations from its parishioners
The local parish will issue you a receipt with their charities commission number on it and you can then claim the appropriate tax rebate.
The local parish will then, at the appropriate time, forward, all these donations, to the “Bishops’ Emergency Appeal”, Anglican Centre, PO Box 12046, Wellington 6144, for processing by the Anglican Diocese of Wellington.

Bishop John Gray, of Te Waipounamu, says cash is needed to buy food for his centre in Ferry Road, which is providing hot meals, accommodation and transport for victim support teams.
Archbishop Brown Turei in Gisborne supports the Waipounamu relief effort and asks that donations be forwarded through Bishop Gray’s Office at 290 Ferry Road, Christchurch; ph (03) 389 1683.
Bishop Kito Pikaahu of Auckland also has pledged assistance, while Bishop Ngarahu Katene of Rotorua has offered to accommodate quake victims at Te Amorangi Centre in Holdens Bay.
His Hui Amorangi is also sending a victim support team of clergy to help Bishop Gray’s social services team.
Bishop Muru Walters of Wellington is promoting the appeal through his own hui amorangi.
More than $10,500 has been contributed to the Archbishops' appeal for quake relief in Christchurch, and over $7600 to the Grab One/Herald appeal (www.grabone.co.nz/christchurch)
