St John's Young Adult Camp

27 Jul 2009

I wonder what you were up to over Queen’s Birthday Weekend this year. Perhaps it was just another weekend off, perhaps you had to work? Perhaps you went on holiday? Or perhaps you were at the St Johns Latimer Square Young Adults camp?

For the eighth year in a row, St Johns Latimer Square has run a camp out at Glentui Meadows for Young Adults. Broadly speaking this involves people aged between 17 and 35. The camp aims to help young adults grow in their love and knowledge of Jesus and to provide an opportunity for them to encourage one another as Christians and grow friendships. This year we had 40 people join us for a great weekend of fun, fellowship and teaching.

The camp, which ran from Friday the 30th of May until Monday the 1st of June, was aimed at teaching Young Adults about the importance of relationships. We were very privileged to have James de Costobadie (the minister of St Saviours in Sydenham) bring us a series of 5 talks on different types of relationships. He began by explaining how God created us to be in a relationship with Himself. That God is a relational God, who speaks to His people, cares for His people and desires His people to relate to one another. James went on to talk about specific relationships such as marriage and singleness, church family, blood family, work colleagues and even our enemies. The aim for all of us in every relationship should be to serve God and build each up in Christ.

There was plenty of free time over the weekend for the young adults to spend in fellowship with each other, to grow friendships and to make new ones. The snow hit us hard on Sunday, but led to all sorts of fun with snow balls flying everywhere!
