St. Chad’s Patronal Festival (2 August) was a wonderful opportunity for the Parish of Linwood to honour the past, celebrate the present and look to the future. Guest preacher The Ven. John Sheaf (a St. Chad’s ‘old boy’) spoke of the many miles Chad walked across his diocese of Lichfield, encouraging us to continue the ‘foot work’ in the Linwood community. Our recently initiated and highly popular Breakfast Club at a local school (together with a busy Op. Shop and well-attended weekly Friendship Afternoon) suggests that the foot work is well underway!
Those helping us celebrate included guest organist Alys Allan (Halswell-Prebbleton), a ‘vicarage baby’ from the past - Fr. Peter Williams, friends from the local Sequence Dancing group and other visitors. Clypping the church after the service and before the celebratory morning-tea, was symbolically outward-facing and great fun for the (approximately) seventy folk taking part.
The people of St. Chad’s are delighted and encouraged by the generous support pledged by parishes, near and far, around the diocese. Thank-you!
