From the Word…
…Jesus looked upward and said, "Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me."
(John 11:41–42)
At Synod our Bishop called us to a year of prayer and study:
“Therefore I stand before you today to call for a year of prayer and study so that we might better understand and receive the healing God offers, and furthermore be better equipped to offer God’s wholeness to others…”

Anglican News & Events – 31 October 2012
News
1. Please promote these public events where the Archbishop of Canterbury will be present
Sunday, 4 November 2012
If you plan to attend the 9.00 Sunday morning Eucharist service at Christ’s College, please bring your own chair. Preferential indoor seating will be given to Cathedral regulars. In addition to seating in the chapel, the public is invited to sit outdoors (BYO chair) at the College. There will be excellent sound channeled outside and the Archbishop will take communion to the people seated outside, but there are no spare chairs available.
Sunday afternoon Dr Williams will participate in a 2.00pm Service of the Word at St Christopher’s Church, Avonhead. He is expected to speak on the topic: “What does holiness look like? How do we seek holiness, given it is ultimately a gift?” There will be video screens and sound throughout the complex, and it is hoped there will sound outdoors, so it may be a good idea to bring a chair to this service if you are not arriving early. The only reserved seating will be for the ecumenical guests.
At 3.00pm young people (ages 16–30) will be invited back into St Christopher’s Church to listen to the Archbishop and have a chance for him to answer a few questions. Afterwards he returns to Auckland.
2. Coverage of Anglican Consultative Council in Auckland
Podcast of Archbishop of Canterbury's ACC Opening Eucharist Sermon
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams gave the sermon at Friday's beautiful opening eucharist for the ACC-15 meeting at Auckland's Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Speaking on the Gospel reading, John 15:17-27, he said we all needed to remember that while the world around us is a place where love is conditional, Jesus punctures that view of love. He said that the challenge for the Church is rethinking love and belonging. "We are to create more belonging with those who don't belong...", he said. "The church is whatever in us says 'yes' to the reckless love of God that reaches out in mission."

Dr Williams, along with the Anglican Consultative Council delegation who are meeting in Auckland, New Zealand, had arrived at the centre for a powhiri - a Maori welcoming ceremony. A significant part of the morning event was a youth forum where questions ranged from Dr Williams' favourite biblical passage to church attitudes towards women, same sex marriage, what shoes God would wear, and whether it was fun to be Archbishop.

14. Vacancy in the Parish of Eastbourne, Diocese of Wellington
St Alban’s Church in the Parish of Eastbourne is looking for a full-time, fully stipended Vicar who will take delight in building on the excellent foundations we have, enhancing our young persons’ ministry, relating to all ages of parishioners and continuing the excellent relationship the Parish has with Wellesley College as the Chaplain of the private Anglican boys’ school set in Days Bay which provides excellent education to boys from Year 1 to Year 8.
St Alban’s in Eastbourne across the harbour from Wellington is a vibrant Parish set in a seaside town which is largely dormitory, with well-defined geographical boundaries and a very active community.
The church itself is picturesque, nestled at the end of a one-way street and situated between the sea and the bush. In recent times baptisms have even been known to take place in the sea. Adjacent to the church is a vicarage, containing four bedrooms and a study, which is set in a large established and well fenced garden. There is a recently refurbished hall which also houses the Parish office.
A part-time administrative assistant has been employed by the Parish over recent years to assist with clerical tasks. There are two retired Anglican clergy who are parishioners who take services or preach from time to time and another parishioner who is due to be ordained priest later this year who also assists with services.
Over recent years the children’s ministry has steadily grown and the Sunday Clubs are regularly attended by large numbers of children.
