The following summarises the business of the meetings held on 16th December 2009 & 10th February 2010. Please note – these are not a complete record of the meetings.
1. Welcome
A warm welcome was extended at the February meeting to Pamela Galbraith as the new Diocesan Manager.The Ven John Day was also welcomed to his new position as Archdeacon for Mission.
2. Change of Parish Name
Standing Committee has agreed to a request that the Parish of Hornby be renamed the Parish of Hornby, Templeton and West Melton.
3. Bishop’s Mission Fund
The first meeting was held late in 2009 and various grants made. A generous donation to the fund was acknowledged.
4. General Secretary
Standing Committee acknowledged the work and ministry of the outgoing General Secretary, Mrs Jackie Pearse, and asked that a letter be sent to her, as well as one of welcome to the new General Secretary, The Revd Michael Hughes.
5. Report on Local Shared Ministry
At the February meeting, the Revd Dr Geoff Haworth presented the report he prepared as a result of his Study Leave looking at models of Local Shared Ministry. The report (or a précis) is available from Geoff for those who are interested.
6. Co-operating Parishes
A commission has been established to review the model of co-operating parishes.
7. Assisting in bi-cultural education
Support has been offered to Te Hui Amorangi in the ministry and training of The Revd Okeroa Boyce in the Parish of Temuka, particularly at Arowhenua.
8. Anglican Centre update
It is hoped that the current lease may be extended for a limited period, allowing further investigation and search for an appropriate alternate location.
9. Archbishop of York’s visit
There is to be powhiri in Cathedral Square on Friday 12th March at approx. 12 noon, followed by a civic reception and lunch hosted by the Mayor of Christchurch. Archbishop Sentamu will later address the judiciary and members of the legal fraternity, before being guest speaker at a dinner for clergy and spouses. Saturday 13th March will be devoted to the Diocesan Conference at St Margaret’s College where he is the keynote speaker and Mrs Margaret Sentamu will also be speaking.
10. Clergy Housing Review
Two meetings have been held. There was a lot of discussion about some of the preliminary recommendations, and these are now to be referred to the Archdeacons for comment. Areas covered include maintenance of clergy housing, whether clergy in parochial ministry should live in parish provided
housing or not, the level of housing allowance that should be paid if clergy live in their own homes, and how to encourage clergy to make adequate provision for housing upon retirement.
11. Reimbursement of clergy who take services on a casual basis
The Finance and Audit Committee brought a recommendation to Standing Committee which was accepted as follows: That the recommended rate of remuneration to clergy who take services on a casual basis be $100
for a single serive, up to a maximum of $175 for more than one service on the same day; and that travel continue to be reimbursed.
12. Thanks to Alison Jephson
There was a motion of thanks to Alison thanking her for her ministry as Diocesan Manager. She concludes in this position on 25th February.

The Christchurch City Council has asked for an "immediate pause" in the demolition of ChristChurch Cathedral.
