Wednesday, 16 May, 7.00 – 8.00pm, The Pegasus Arms Restaurant and Bar, 14 Oxford Terrace, Christchurch
Run by Anglican Life and Problem Gambling Foundation, the purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness that our cities don’t need Pokie machines, and to support the venues, establishments and organizations that are Pokie Free. Studies show that Pokie machines are incredibly harmful— with more than 1 in 4 regular players developing a gambling problem at some point. There are enough struggles in life without the added issues that Pokie machines bring to the table, so we want to promote a Pokie free environment.
A strong turn out of local clergy and Anglican lay people to support this campaign would send a great message.
Along with interested people such as yourself, a number of notable public figures, HODs, Local Body politicians and major and minor News Media (The Press, TVNZ etc) will attend.
Any questions, please contact Josh Hill of St Timothy's Parish of Burnside, 021-963-250

The Christian tradition bears witness to the quest of religious women and men for personal and direct encounters with the Living God in Christ. Wherever religion has become legal, concrete, historic, infantile, or institutional - or prayer has become dry - faith has always been renewed through this quest for living encounter. In the mystical tradition faith is re-grounded in a living experience. Such experience is an all-consuming passionate love affair between human beings and God. In their various and unique ways, the mystics bear witness to this eternal renewal of the living Spirit of Christ, through its arduous and joyous undertaking, into the all-encompassing love of God for humankind. Because they have struggled with eternal mysteries their insights continue to illumine the spiritual path long after their time.

Wesley Day (24 May) is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the Anglican-Methodist Covenant. We encourage local and regional gatherings to bring to life the ethos of the Covenant which is borne out of our common Methodist and Anglican heritage, particularly through the lives of John and Charles Wesley.
This is an opportunity to create a gathering around this date, whether you are a co-operating parish that has both Anglican and Methodist components, or across co-operating, Methodist and Anglican parishes. You might like to consider a worship service (and sing with gusto some of the Wesleyan hymns, traditional and contemporary), a social gathering, youth group event, or a joint study.
There are some joint-worship resources on the Methodist website (http://www.methodist.org.nz/faith_and_order ); and we would love to add further resources that you might have found or developed. And after you have gathered, how about sharing something about it with the Covenant Dialogue Team – we would love to collate and share stories of events through Touchstone and Taonga, or local Anglican and Methodist publications. Send through your stories and/or pics to Tony (tony@franklinross.co.nz).
Grace and peace,
The Rev’d Tony Franklin-Ross, Methodist Co-Convenor
The Rt Rev’d David Rice, Anglican Co-Convenor

Saturday, 9 June,1.00pm – 5.00pm, Spreydon Baptist Church (244 Lyttelton Street, Spreydon)
Following the earthquakes many of us are grappling with the tension between maintaining and developing familiar church as it was yesterday, while realising the importance of seizing the new possibilities to mission in the “new Christchurch”. This is an ideal time to introduce the vision of Fresh Expressions in Christchurch, encouraging our churches to move beyond what we've done in the past.
On June 9, some background to the movement will be given, and future possibilities will be discussed. Insights and related experiences of pioneering new approaches to ministry here will be shared. There will be opportunity for interaction, prayer, and fellowship together.
If you share the concern about developing new approaches to ministry, we hope that you will be able to participate on June 9.
