Seven Australasian ‘Emily Schools’ South Island Tour

St Margaret’s College will host the Sisters of the Church Festival, bringing together choirs from seven ‘Emily Schools’ across Australia and New Zealand for a tour through Timaru, Oamaru, Wānaka, Geraldine and Dunedin.

The tour will be led by David Squire, one of New Zealand’s most respected choral conductors. Choirs will perform music written specially for the gathering, with the tour culminating in a finale concert at the Charles Luney Auditorium on Saturday 5 September.

St Margaret’s College is inviting the wider public to attend performances in each touring region.

Monday 31 August — Waitaki Girls’ High School Hall, 7pm
Tuesday 1 September — St Hilda’s Collegiate Chapel, 7pm
Wednesday 2 September — Lake Wānaka Centre, 7pm
Friday 4 September — Geraldine High School Hall, 2pm
Saturday 5 September — St Margaret’s College, Charles Luney Auditorium, 4pm

Entry is free and open to all. Koha is appreciated at the Waitaki and Wānaka concerts.

St Margaret’s is one of seven “Emily Schools” in Australia and New Zealand. This group of schools, known as the Sisters of the Church Schools, comes together biennially through the Sisters of the Church Music Festival. While each of the ‘Emily Schools’ has developed its own unique identity, all continue to honour the belief that education empowers young women to lead with courage, compassion and integrity, a belief strongly held by Mother Emily Ayckbowm, an Anglican pioneer who founded the Community of the Sisters of the Church in England in 1870.
